One of the things I've learned throughout my career is that understanding how a system works is not the same as simply accepting how it works.
My background in legal and municipal environments has involved advocating, negotiating, asking difficult questions, interpreting policies and procedures, and challenging them when there was a reason to do so.
That experience has taught me to look at an issue from different perspectives, understand the information behind a recommendation, and ask questions when something doesn't make sense.
Those are skills I believe are important at a Council table.
As a Councillor, I would listen carefully to the advice and recommendations brought forward by municipal staff. I would also do my own due diligence, ask questions, consider the potential impact on residents, and make my own decision.
Sometimes that will mean agreeing with a recommendation. Sometimes it may mean asking for more information, suggesting a different approach, or disagreeing entirely.
That's part of the job.
My experience doesn't mean I will automatically support a particular position. It means I understand the importance of being informed before taking one.
And ultimately, if elected, my responsibility will be to the residents of Ward 2.
I encourage residents to do their own research, ask questions of all the candidates, and decide who best aligns with their vision for Scugog.
As always, if you have questions or concerns about anything you've heard or seen on the campaign trail, please reach out. I'm always happy to talk.
